'Who decided 6:00 AM is a reasonable time to blast a trumpet?': 24-year-old woman starts feud with next-door neighbor for practicing trumpet loudly every morning

  • The guy in the apartment next to me (I'm 24F) is learning trumpet. He's a beginner so its not like pleasant music its literally just random loud blaring notes.
  • Every single morning at exactly 6am he starts practicing. For a full hour. I work late shifts so I dont get home until midnight and I need to sleep until at least 8am to function.
  • I've knocked on his door multiple times asking if he can practice later in the day. He says he works 8-6 and goes to the gym after work and 6am is the only time he has. I suggested weekends only then and he said he "needs to practice daily to improve."
  • I talked to my landlord who said technically quiet hours are only 10pm- 6am so hes not violating anything by starting at 6am exactly. But like who decided 6am is a reasonable time to blast a trumpet??
  • I've tried earplugs, white noise machines, sleeping pills. Nothing blocks out the sound of a trumpet 10 feet away through a thin wall. I'm exhausted all the time now because I'm getting 5 hours of sleep instead of 8.
  • Last week I banged on the wall at 6am when he started and he came over later saying I'm being aggressive and if I dont stop he'll file a noise complaint against ME. For banging on a wall while. hes literally playing trumpet!
  • A man plays the trumpet in a spotlight.
  • PlanningToSleep Depends on your city but look up noise ordinance. I'm surprised your landlord said quiet hours end at 6 am, usually that for normal noise not trumpets or something that is a nuisance (like construction). Those have a later start per ordinances. Look up your city's and report him to the city directly if they are breaking them. Skip your landlord.
  • agmccall Loud speaker, metronome set at awkward timing
  • Striking-Flatworm691 Figure out when he goes to bed and start learning trumpet
  • tipareth1978 I'm sorry that's terrible. I'm also laughing at them because I used to play the trumpet. It's a very difficult instrument even for people who grew up playing it. The idea that some adult thinks they're going to take up the trumpet and be any good is ludicrous
  • North-Dog1268 Can't he practice when he gets home from work or the gym late evening? As you are at work then. At least maybe a solution for the week days
  • Falls OffCliffs 12 I think midnight is an excellent time to play some Wagner at top volume. I mean, it helps you relax after a long day, right?
  • giantthanks Tell him to use the mute and a pillow
